Ujjal Gupta is a Leadership & Executive Coach and a Business Mentor. 

His vision of the ideal workplace is one where every participant feels inspired to give their best and gets fulfilled and happiness at the end of each day. Such an environment enhances people performance and business results and can only be created by the relevant standards of leadership in an organisation.

His mission is to raise the standards of leadership in organisations in order to create such enriching workplace environment, by providing coaching and mentoring support to leaders in organisations. In the process Ujjal shares his professional experience and skills to develop leadership competencies at different levels.

His coaching style is a rare combination of business/financial acumen with coaching skills. Consequently his coaching is business result focused and addresses the leader’s behavioral goals and team interactions, aligning these to business deliverables.

Ujjal is an certified business mentor, under the Dynamiqe Mentor Accreditation Programme (DMAP), using the Dynamiqe psychometric tool for entrepreneurs and business leaders.

He joined the Unilever Group in India as a management trainee, after qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, and gained knowledge and experience over 15 years in financial, commercial and general management, with assignments in factories, sales offices, profit centres, and corporate functions. He had a two-year overseas placement as Controller in Lever Brothers Zimbabwe. He attended several international training programmes organised by the Group.

Ujjal’s signature achievement throughout his career has been in forming the vital core of successful turnaround teams. He was responsible for the turnaround in profitability and implementation of growth strategies in both the Gramophone Company (a music company forming part of the RPG Group), and Bates India (a marketing communications agency forming part of the WPP Group). He was advising CEOs in planning growth strategies –  organic, start ups and through acquisitions – and enabled their practical implementation.

As CFO and later as COO, Ujjal had overall managerial responsibility for the functions of IT, HR, Legal & Secretarial, I.P.R. management, and fee negotiations with clients. In Bates India, Ujjal served as a whole-time director on the Board for more than seven years.

Ujjal’s academic capabilities and sharp numerical acumen was evident throughout his school and university days, culminating in him ranking 7th in India in his Chartered Accountancy final examinations. At present, he is a Fellow (FCA) member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and an Associate (ACC) member of the International Coach Federation, a worldwide body of certified professional coaches.

As a corporate trainer, Ujjal has conducted training workshops covering more than 800 managers at in-company workshops at various leading organisations, such as Mitsui, Philips, Alstom, etc., as well as in open-to-public programmes. He has logged more than 500 hours of professional coaching with corporate executives and business entrepreneurs, as well as peer coaching with international coaches.

Ujjal is father to two grown-up daughters. When not busy at work, he likes to read, listen to music, walk on the treadmill, practise yoga, and play with his new-found child, Leo the pug.
